TECH CORNER

Exciting news for the Peloton users. In the latest Peloton earnings call, CEO Barry McCarthy discussed plans to cater towards “performance athletes” with marathon-focused content and new partnerships

In a section of the call discussing the Peloton Tread, McCarthy shared the company’s plans to provide special content centered around performance athletes, specifically those training for marathons. The heart of this strategy lies in the creation of immersive 3D courses. Imagine virtually sprinting through the streets of Boston during the Boston Marathon or conquering the undulating hills of New York City’s course. Peloton’s cutting-edge technology will transport users to these iconic locales, complete with realistic terrain and breathtaking vistas.

But that’s not all. The auto-incline feature adds an extra layer of challenge. As you ascend a virtual hill, your Tread’s incline will adjust automatically, mimicking the grueling uphill battles faced by marathoners. It’s not just a workout; it’s a visceral experience.

This implies that members can likely expect a very immersive experience in this upcoming content, more accurately simulating the real-world conditions of marathon courses, offering users a more authentic and challenging training experience.

NUTRITION & DIET CORNER

Training for your Spring races? Need some tips for fueling plans for the big day? Pay attention to this below areas on fueling during your races:

  • Hydrate well before, during and after the race. Drink water or sports drinks according to your thirst and sweat rate. Avoid drinking too much or too little, as both can cause problems. Aim for about 400-800 ml per hour of running.

  • Consume carbohydrates to replenish your energy stores and prevent fatigue. You can use gels, bars, chews, bananas, dried fruits or other easily digestible sources of carbs. Aim for about 30-60 grams of carbs per hour of running.

  • Avoid eating too much fat, protein or fiber during the race, as they can cause gastrointestinal distress and slow down your digestion. Stick to foods that you have tested and tolerated well in your training.

  • If the race is longer than 2 hours, you may benefit from consuming some caffeine to boost your alertness and performance. You can use coffee, tea, energy drinks or caffeinated gels. Aim for about 3-6 mg of caffeine per kg of body weight. Be careful not to overdo it, as caffeine can also cause side effects such as anxiety, insomnia and dehydration.

  • Listen to your body and adjust your nutrition plan according to your needs, preferences and conditions. Experiment with different foods and drinks in your training and find what works best for you.

Remember that nutrition is not a one-size-fits-all approach, and what works for one runner may not work for another.
